I used to listen to the jai-alai results everynight on WNAB. In
those days, the late report came on at 12:30 p.m. Larry King had
an overnight talk show on the Mutual Broadcast Network. Jeff Brand
would give the recap, and usually his ending would be:
"Doubleheader on tap for tomorrow, including a matinee performance,
13 games of action-packed jai-alai, first post 12 noon. And this
is Jeff Brand reminding you that you'll hear all the results of
all the games at Bridgeport Jai-Alai on WNAB. Now back to Paul
'White Shoes' Piorek..." Paul would read the weather and
go back to the Larry King feed.
Jai-Alai was so popular in the first couple of years that they
had results on the radio every hour starting at 9:30. After things
settled down, there were two reports, one at 10:30 and the other at 12:30.
